My ongoing story with the eye floaters
Friday, June 27, 2025For those who don't know what the eye floaters are, here is a brief description from Mayoclinic.org:
Eye floaters are spots in your vision. They may look to you like black or gray specks, strings, or cobwebs. They may drift about when you move your eyes. Floaters appear to dart away when you try to look at them directly.
In the most of the cases, they are benign, but in other cases they are symptoms of something worse.
In my case, I started seeing them in November 2021 and they have increased over time.
It's very disturbing and has a negative impact on my mental health. You should contact a doctor if you see more floaters, but you can't just obsessively follow them... So, what should I do? Should I try to see if I can see more, or try to forget about them so that my mental health doesn't deteriorate?
They are particularly disturbing bright conditions, such as looking at a white wall or screen, in the beach or trying to see a blue sky.
In recent weeks, I have noticed a new small floater in the centre of my left eye. Sometimes I see it, sometimes I don't. I checked with an ofthalmologist and he told me that my eyes are healthy and that it's just an ageing problem...
I think I need some help from a psychologist because I feel like I'm in a hole right now. I'm not enjoying of some moments that I used to enjoy, and I'm thinking about them almost all of the time.
